The #1 Free Way to Easily Get More People to See Your Content

May 21, 2020 in Big Ideas

I’m going to start with a disclaimer. I found this very convicting. Once I discovered this #1 free way to easily get more people to see your content, my response was a resounding, “DUH, Alex, you idiot!”

Just kidding, I wasn’t that harsh with myself. But it is how I felt for a split second there.

If you’re not already in love with me, you’re about to be because I’m not going to wait until the end to give you the #1 free way to easily get more people to see your content. Here it is:

Share your content more than once, twice, or even three times.

Here’s the deal, you spend all of this time writing content, you pour your blood, sweat, and tears into it. THEN, the tragedy happens. You share it ONE TIME on social media. Hours of your life spent on creating something excellent for people; then you share it once.

You spend all of this time writing content, but then you spend very little time promoting it.

Most of us do exactly the same thing. We write our content, and then we share it on all major social media platforms like this:

“Hey everyone, I have a new blog post up! Here’s a link to check it out. Thank you!”

::Freaking Crickets::

Perhaps you get one like on it or a comment, and when it’s not your mom who leaves the comment telling you that you should call grandma, it’s worthy of celebration.

Here are five ways that explain the #1 free way to easily get more people to see your content:

#1. Work sharing your content into your social media calendar for the next 12 months. You should be sharing on ALL platforms, even if you don’t have a big audience on some. (Just automate these posts, if you don’t want to waste time.)

#2. Plan on sharing it at least 6 times over the next 12 months. If you produce lower amounts of content, share it monthly.

#3. Get creative with how and where you share your content. (More on this below.)

#4. If the content piece has the potential to drive revenue, consider spending (a little bit) on advertising to see if it converts to positive cash flow. – More on advertising from a friend, here.

#5. Be proud of what you’ve created. So proud that you want to make sure that everyone sees it. Remember, every time you share your content, very small percentages of your total audience see the content. To take that a step further, it’s unlikely that the same people will see the content next time you post it.

How to creatively share your content:

Jumping back to #3 above, ‘Get creative with how and where you share your content.’ This is very important. Don’t just share the same thing about your content each time. ‘Hey guys, I’m excited – Here’s the link again” NOPE. Do something more original. Below are a few ideas that I’ve used with my own content.

Here are 6 ways to share your content over a 12 month period of time:

  • Initial Post: “New post up! Check it out everyone.”
  • Second Post: “I’m getting a lot of great feedback on this, thank you so much everyone!”
  • Third Post: “Check out what (insert person’s name) said about this post. How cool!”
  • Forth Post: “I wanted to share a story about why I wrote this post (inert longer content about the WHY behind the WHAT) I hope you find this impactful!” (Include a picture of yourself)
  • Fifth Post: “Hey everyone! I am looking for feedback on this post. Can you read it and let me know if you find it helpful?”
  • Sixth Post: “One year ago, I posted this and it’s helped so many people. Not long ago, I asked for some feedback. I’ve made some updates to this that I believe you’ll find very impactful. Check it out!”

Some sharing hacks to keep in mind:

  • Get creative with the link: Don’t always share the link directly in the main post, sometimes put it in the comments or don’t link to it at all, just talk about where people can find it. Content that keeps people on social platforms gets shown to more people.
  • Don’t ask for likes, comments, or shares: There are penalties for asking for engagement on all social media platforms.
  • End with a question: Get people to comment, then respond to ALL of them.
  • Tag People: When you’re commenting or talking about the post, tag people who helped you or may know something about the topic. Tagging people drives engagement.

Here’s my final thought on this topic…

HOW WAS I NOT DOING THIS SOONER??? Perhaps you’re smarter than me and have already been sharing content multiple times on all social media platforms. If that’s the case, good for you, bro. But for me, discovering this #1 way to easily get more people to see your content was an eye opener. Since I’ve implemented this, ALL of my stats have increased.

Do ‘This’ if You Want to Become Successful

May 14, 2020 in Big Ideas

Many people want to be successful, but few follow the path that leads to success. There are a few things one must do to truly become successful.

The key to success is to focus on goals, not obstacles. If you want to become successful, be focused on achieving your goals.

In today’s lightning fast, ⚡ overly busy world, we often get stuck always overcoming obstacles. I’m learning more and more that much of what we are “overcoming” never needs to be addressed.

Instead, we should be focusing on our goals, dreams, and visions for our lives and we’d go so much further.

I’ve been thinking about this topic a lot because I believe that too many people (even myself at times) believe that success means reaching a certain dollar amount, having a certain car or home, or some other physical position.

I’ve come to realize that this isn’t true. Robert Foster Bennett has defined success in this quote,

Success is not in what you have, but in who you are.

Do 'This' if You Want to Become Successful

I firmly agree with this quote. Now, how does this apply to our brands? ?

If you want to become successful in whatever business you’re creating, it means you must be productive, disciplined, and focused. We’re going to become more successful people of MEANING, by adding value with everything we do for ourselves and for others.

One Thing That Will Completely Change Your Life and Business

April 23, 2020 in Big Ideas

If you want to change your life and business, this one thing will make it happen. I’ve found that all people living successful lives do this one thing.

Clarity is the answer to almost everything. A few months ago Paul Tompkins and I were having a conversation on this topic with our mastermind group (FPS Mastermind).

We talked about how focus, prioritization and success only come to those who gain clarity on what they are doing.

Steve Maraboli has a great quote that I want to share,

It’s a lack of clarity that creates chaos and frustration. Those emotions are poison to any living goal.

From my experience, I’ve learned this to be 100% true. It’s easy to get confused, lost or even caught up in the busyness of life when you don’t have clarity on where you’re going and what you’re doing. This is how you change your life and business.

As General George Casey puts it,

Clarity and simplicity are the antidotes to complexity and uncertainty.

The more clarity I gain in my life and business – The more success I’ve achieved. In addition, I’m less stressed. The best way I’ve been able to gain clarity in my life and business is through spending time reflecting. I think about what I love, and what I dislike and what brings the biggest RIO. Then, I get more clear on my vision to achieve what I desire.

CALL TO ACTION:

I want to end this post with this statement, a lack of clarity can put the brakes on any journey to success. What are you doing to gain clarity? Learn more about the topic in the below episode of the Creating a Brand Podcast.

How to Link to Google Reviews

September 28, 2019 in Big Ideas

For local businesses, Google Business (aka Google Maps listings) reviews are key. They are one of the first things that show up when someone Google’s your business name or, in some cases, the products/services you offer in your area. Prospective customers will use these reviews to determine whether or not they will buy from you. So the question becomes, how do I create my own Google review link for my company? I’m going to walk you through a step-by-step of this in this post.

Getting customers to write a Google review can be a challenge. One of the reasons behind this is because Google doesn’t really make it easy to write a review. If you were to craft an email requesting for your customers to write a review on Google, you would have several steps of instructions on how to do so. The email would be a mile long (which everyone hates) and the customer would likely delete it.

To avoid this, the steps below show you how to create a direct link to your Google reviews page; making the process much easier for your customers. The easier the process the more likely the customer will write the review.

IMPORTANT! Before proceeding, your business must have a business listing on Google. If you do not have a listing on Google, fear not. It is very simple to get started. Click here to create your business listing on Google now.

How can I link to Google reviews?

Thanks to Google’s Place ID Lookup Tool you can easily link to your Google reviews page! Here’s how it’s done in 5 steps:

  1. Go to Google’s Place ID Lookup Tool.
  2. Enter your business name.
  3. Copy your place ID.
  4. Enter your place ID into this specific URL (Listed below)
  5. Send your review link to your customers.

Here is a quick video explaining how to link to your Google reviews:

Before I get into explaining the details of how this is done, I wanted to re-enforce the importance of Google reviews. More than ever, people are looking for reviews before deciding to purchase, or visit a place. Having more 5-star reviews than the competition can make or break a business. Everyone who wants to grow their business needs to focus on gaining more Google reviews.

5 STEPS TO CREATE A LINK FOR CUSTOMERS TO WRITE GOOGLE REVIEWS:

STEP 1: GO TO GOOGLE’S PLACE ID LOOKUP TOOL

Google’s PlaceID Lookup Tool lets you find the unique identification code for your business. This is what Google uses in their maps to differentiate you from other businesses in the area. For us, it will help route customers to our reviews.

STEP 2: ENTER YOUR BUSINESS NAME

Enter your business name into the designated field. Make sure you enter your business name exactly how it is shown on your Google business listing, as it that is what the PlaceID Lookup Tool will pull. See the screenshot below for example:

STEP 3: COPY YOUR PLACE ID

Once your business is displayed, your place ID will be listed under your business name. It will appear as a string of letters and numbers, about 25 characters long. Copy this code and paste it somewhere safe, like a word or pages document.

STEP 4: ENTER YOUR ID INTO THE FOLLOWING URL

Next you will want to take your Place ID and enter into the following URL to create your full, usable link:

https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=PASTE PLACE ID HERE

When using the above link, the url with the place ID should end up looking like this:

https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=ChIJv4SF3a_K5YgRdGQa_eMOoZI

PRO TIP: Since the URL is long and impossible to remember, you should run the link through a URL shortening tool. Seeing that Google has discontinued their URL shortening tool, we recommend using Bitly.

Here is what the URL looks like after using Bitly’s free URL shortening service:

GOOGLE’S PLACE ID LOOKUP TOOL SHORTEN THE URL WITH BITLY

Our new URL is https://bit.ly/2RiicaG. That’s much better, and shorter, than the previous, https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=ChIJv4SF3a_K5YgRdGQa_eMOoZI.

STEP 5: SEND THE REVIEW LINK TO CUSTOMERS (GET CREATIVE!)

Now that you have a short link for customers to use to review your business on Google, you can send it out to customers. Here is exactly what they’ll see when they click the link:

GOOGLE’S PLACE ID LOOKUP TOOL LEAVE A REVIEW ON GOOGLE

GOOGLE’S PLACE ID LOOKUP TOOL LEAVE A REVIEW ON GOOGLE

Please note: this window will only appear in their browser allowing them to easily leave a review if they are signed into their Google account.

PRO TIP: Before ending this post, I wanted to give you one final idea on this. Just sending links often doesn’t work. I recommend using an image asking for reviews. The visual will help encourage people to click the link. Here’s an example:

Beautiful, right??? If you want to use that image, feel free. Here’s the direct link for it: https://creatingabrand.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/Click-here-teo-leave-us-a-review-on-Google.png

As I mentioned at the beginning, it is important to begin collecting Google reviews from your customers. It is what will cause you to stand out and gain more traction.

What is one creative way will you be sharing your new Google Business Review link?
